GUJRAT, Nov 7: The Gujrat police issued the international red notice to the Interpol for the arrest and extradition of Shehbaz Ahmed from Denmark, who had allegedly plotted the murder of his Danish wife of Pakistani origin on June 19 in Jaura village of Kharian, it was learnt here on Friday.

Family sources of deceased Tahira Naheed Tabassum said the matter of issuance of the international warrant had been pending for the last two months because of delaying tactics of the Gujrat police.

They said the family of deceased on Thursday had gone to the PML-N secretariat and informed Irfan Haider, the Punjab chief minister’s secretary responsible for attending complainants of open courts, about their ordeal.

The secretary asked Gujranwala RPO Zulfiqar Cheema for the issuance of a red notice and the latter directed Gujrat DPO Tahir Alam Khan for the issuance of international warrant.

They said the Nordic police had already confiscated the passport and other travel documents of Shehbaz Ahmed in Denmark. They said the Danish police had been pressing the Gujrat police for the issuance of the red warrant against the accused.

Kharian police had booked Tahira’s father-in-law Bashir Ahmad, brother-in-laws Faisal, Sheraz and Nawaz, and her husband Shehbaz Ahmad, who is residing in Denmark. The accused had reportedly murdered Tahira for not bearing a baby boy.

Except for the main accused Shehbaz, the police had sent all the accused to a Gujrat jail after submitting the challan in a Kharian court on Aug 15, 2008. The trial court had declared Shehbaz a proclaimed offender about a month ago.
