No clue to missing doctor, IHC told

ISLAMABAD, Nov 7: The crisis management cell of the interior ministry on Friday informed the Islamabad High Court that they have found no clue to the whereabouts of a missing doctor, and sought two weeks’ time to submit a detailed report about the case.

Col (retired) Javaid Iqbal Lodhi of the CMC told the IHC that the cell was in contact with all the four provincial governments in search of Dr Abdul Razzaq and as soon as they get any information about his whereabouts the court would be informed without delay.

Barrister Akram Sheikh, the counsel for the wife of the missing doctor, while appearing before Chief Justice IHC Justice Sardar Aslam said the family members of the missing doctor wanted to know about his whereabouts. If he is involved in any criminal activity, he should be tried in an open court, he maintained.

Afzoona Kausar, wife of Dr Razzaq, in her petition said her husband had never been involved in any anti-state activity. She said they had received some dubious phone calls at home after the disappearance of her husband and the ministry of interior can track the calls to reach the culprits. These calls also strengthened the notion that he may have been taken into custody by security agencies, the petitioner said.

Dr Razzaq went missing on September 22 while returning home from duty at the Railway Hospital in Rawalpindi.

Meanwhile, Advocate Kokab Iqbal filed a miscellaneous petition before the court stating that the government had not reduced the rates of petroleum products after POL prices came down in the international market.

He said the government had only made a 5 per cent reduction in the petroleum prices whereas in the international market the prices had decreased from $148 per barrel to $58 per barrel.

CDA PLOTS: Dr Aslam Khaki has filed a writ petition with the IHC against the CDA for allotting plots to its employees in the urban transport land at I-8 sector. He prayed to the court to hold the CDA accountable for allocating plots to its officials in violation of rules and regulations.

In yet another petition, chairman Pakistan People's Movement Chaudhry Mohammad Ashfaq urged the IHC to direct the federal government to issue a commemorative coin of Rs50 and a postage stamp on the first death anniversary of Benazir Bhutto.
