Rehman stuns Nameer in semis

KARACHI, Nov 6: Promising Abdul Rehman continued his winning spree when he subdued third seed Nameer Shamsi in three agonising sets to enter boys’ under-15 singles final of the 18th STA Talent Hunt Sindh ranking tennis championship at City Sports Complex on Thursday.

Sixth seed Rehman who on Wednesday stunned top seed Mustafa Zaidi conceded the opening set 3-6 only to bounce back and win 6-4, 6-2.

Nasir Mushtaq meanwhile, qualified to meet Faraz for the men’s singles title on Friday.

He inflicted 6-1, 6-4 defeat on Omer Shahid while Faraz recovered from a set down to beat Faheem Ramzan 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 in the two pre-finals.

Results: Men’s singles: (Quarter-final): Omer Shahid bt Shamael Najam 6-4, 6-0; Faraz bt Talha Saeed 6-3, 6-4.

(Semi-final): Nasir Mushtaq bt Omer Shahid 6-1, 6-4; Faraz bt Faheem Ramzan 4-6, 6-3, 7-5.

Boys’ under-15 singles (quarter-final):

Hamza Pataudi bt Farhan Mustafa 6-1, 6-0.

(Semi-final): Abdul Rehman bt Nameer Shamsi 3-6, 6-4, 6-2.

Juniors’ under-17 singles (quarter-finals): Omer Shahid bt Rehmat Ali 6-0, 7-5; Mustafa Zaidi bt Abdul Rehman 6-3, 7-6.

(Semi-final): Talha Saeed bt Nameer Shamsi 6-3, 3-6, 6-4.

Boys’ under-13 singles (final): Saud Shoaib bt Talha Khurram 8-4.

Ladies singles (quarter-finals): Saman Shahid bt Anam Saeed 2-6, 7-6, 3-1 (retired); Eman Malik bt Maheen Dada 6-1, 6-1.

Boys and girls under-11 singles round robin: Saud Shoaib bt Maheen Dada 8-2, Adnan Allahwala bt Asim Allahwala 8-2, Asim Allahwala bt Taha Farhan 8-7.
