MINGORA, Nov 6: Three persons were killed and five others wounded in different incidents of violence in the restive Swat valley on Thursday.

Residents said suspected militants attacked a security post in Charbagh tehsil and fled after security forces returned retaliatory fire. Both sides used heavy weapons in exchange of fire injuring three militants. The militants also destroyed a bridge near Sambut area after detonating explosive device, planted near the bridge, linking Matta and upper parts with rest of Swat district on Thursday. Major portion of the bridge was destroyed in the explosion.

Military spokesman Col Nadeem said an improvised explosive device, planted by miscreants near a petrol pump, exploded prematurely but the road and bridge remained safe. —Correspondent
