Aisam storms into last eight

LAHORE, May 10: Pakistan’s Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi has entered the quarterfinals of the singles and final of the doubles in the fourth International Futures Championship at  Namangan, Uzbekistan, according to a message received Friday.

In a pre-quarterfinals match that lasted 55 minutes, Aisam defeated Alexander Shvec of Berlarus 6-4, 6-2. Aisam hit seven aces.

Earlier Aisam defeated Japanese Toshih de Matsui 6-4, 7-6 (3) in the first round match.

In the doubles semifinal, Aisam with Ketola of Finland outclassed their opponents Alexander and Orest Tereschuk (Ukraine) 7-6 (6), 6-3.

Aisam will now face No 2 seed of the tournament, Igor Kunitein, of Russia in the singles quarterfinals, while Aisam and Ketola will face the South African pair of Rik De Voest and Dirk Stegmann for a place in the final.
