TOBA TEK SINGH, Nov 3: A 40-foot breach in Khewra sub-canal inundated crops on hundreds of acres of land on Monday.

The breach primarily was 30-foot wide but later widened. It was plugged by farmers and irrigation department employees. A probe to ascertain the cause of the breach had been ordered.

Irrigation employees union spokesman Allah Bakhsh claimed that the breach occurred due to the negligence of farmers’ organisation while the farmers alleged that the irrigation department was responsible for it.

This canal had been opened after a week’s closure on Sunday night.

ACCIDENT: A labourer was run over and killed by a speeding car on Monday on Toba-Gojra Road.

Tahir of Chak 302-JB Noorpur was on his way to his village on his bicycle when a car ran over him. He was rushed to a Gojra hospital from where he was referred to Faisalabad Allied Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
