LARKANA, Nov 2: Chief of the Sunni Tehrik (ST), Sarwat Aijaz Qadri has alleged the PPP of deviating from the commitment it made during the October 18 elections of nabbing those involved in Nishtar Park tragedy.
Speaking during a press conference here on Monday he said that the STP not only withdrew its candidates in Karachi from National and Sindh Assembly seats but also extended support to the PPP on the promise that the culprits of Nishar Park tragedy would be arrested which claimed the lives of 63 leading ulemas. He demanded of the government to reinvestigate the case.
Calling ST the only patriotic organisation he said it was keeping intact its Islamic entity and struggling to safeguard the frontiers of Pakistan. He criticised the indifferent attitude of the Sindh government to targeted killings of ST workers.
He said the ST was daily lifting two bodies of its workers in Karachi. He regretted that the government was mum even after conveying to high ups of targeted killings of STP workers. He said that the workers of STP had offered great sacrifices and fought fearlessly against the terrorism.
He said the ST had temporarily suspended its protest campaign due to earthquake in Balochistan and announced to relaunch it later.
He said protest campaign after a phase of silence would begin with observing hunger strikes before Chief Minister House in Karachi, Mirza House in Badin and at the mausoleum of slain leader Ms Benazir Bhutto in Garhi Khuda Bakhsh Bhutto. He said all roads would be blocked in the country.
Presently our workers are busy collecting relief goods for earthquake victims, he said. He urged the government to do away with what he called ‘no go areas’ in Karachi and wind up cases registered against STP workers. Expressing concern over deteriorating law and order situation in Sindh and unprecedented price hike in the country he said that these had seriously affected peoples.
Opposing proposed privatisation of the Qadirpur gas field, the ST chief said that it would not only cast negative impact on country’s economy but would also affect labourers.
