Published November 4, 2008

KARACHI, Nov 3: A fire broke out on Monday at 8.30am on the 5th Floor of the City Branch of UBL on I I Chundrigar Road.

The fire, which was apparently caused by an electrical short-circuit, was restricted to the same floor.

A UBL press release said the members of UBL’s Security Force took emergency steps to control the fire, the local fire brigade was immediately notified and they arrived on site just after 9am.

The building was meanwhile evacuated, and the branch shut down as a precautionary measure so that the fire brigade could operate freely on the premises.

Special equipment and reinforcements brought in by the fire brigade helped extinguish the fire in a very short period. Minimal damage caused was restricted to office furniture, desktop computers and some filing.

No injury or loss of life was caused to any personnel of the bank or the fire brigade, and the branch was fully operational in a period of three hours.
