Marriage of minors: parents freed

Published November 2, 2008

KARACHI, Nov 1: Two men were released on Saturday after they were arrested on suspicion of organising the wedding of their young children to end their families feuding.

Police arrested the pair and a marriage registrar in Nazimabad area of the city on Thursday, amid claims that a four-year-old girl and a seven-year-old boy were being wedded unlawfully.

A court in Karachi granted the men bail.

“Judge Zahida Perveen ordered to release the three men against a personal bond and give children’s custody to their parents,” he said.—AFP
