KARACHI, May 10: The city government has upgraded the maternity and child health centre at Gizri to a full-fledged maternity home, where the first major surgery was performed recently.

The medical superintendent and a senior gynaecologist at the newly-developed maternity home, Dr Nazima Asad Malik, said that the maternity home was a manifestation of the government’s desire to provide better healthcare to the people. She said that a well- equipped operation theatre had started functioning at the maternity home.

Dr Nazima was assisted by Dr Samina, the resident medical officer, anaesthetist Dr Muhammad Ali and lab technician Muhammad Aqeel. The medical superintendent expressed her gratitude to the City Nazim, DCO and other officials of the District City Government for their interest and encouragement in establishing and equipping the operation theatre and the maternity home.
