‘Terror charges unjustified’

Published October 30, 2008

LAHORE, Oct 29: Police officials say there was no justification of adding section 506 (life threat) of the Pakistan Penal Code and 7 Anti-Terrorism Act (to create terror among the people and law enforcers through assault and violence) in a first information report (FIR) against nine GCU students.

These sections were inserted on behalf of the state and the vice-chancellor that the students created the law and order situation and blocked the road at the cost of public, a police official said.

Another police official said the 7-ATA was inserted in any FIR especially after assault on armed and civil armed forces and law enforcement agencies and in such incidents in which armed people harassed people.

SSP (investigation) Zulfikar Hameed said the case was registered by the operations police but any section proved wrong in investigation would be quashed from the FIR. He said no raids were being conducted to arrest the nominated accused.
