LAHORE, Oct 29: Former president Pervez Musharraf should be held accountable for holding the constitution in abeyance and seizing power unlawfully, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz Sindh President Ghous Ali Shah said here on Wednesday.

Speaking to lawyers at the Karachi Shohada Hall of the Lahore High Court Bar Association, Shah said Musharraf’s Nov 3 acts were illegal and unconstitutional. He said that lawyers ‘forced’ Musharraf to remove his uniform and leave the Presidency. He said the lawyers’ movement would succeed and all judges would be reinstated.

The PML-N leader said the country’s system suffered when judges compromised with the government. He said that refusal of 60 judges to take oath under the Provisional Constitution Order (PCO) was a ‘commendable act’.

Shah said Musharraf should be held accountable for toppling a democratically elected government to teach a lesson to those who could think of seizing power in future. He congratulated lawyers on the victory of Ali Ahmed Kurd in the Supreme Court Bar Association election.

Justice Aftab Farrukh (retired) said the lawyers, by voting for Kurd, made it clear that they were united for restoration of all deposed judges.
