LAHORE, Oct 25: Three-year-old colt Dubai Fan looks set to land the feature event to go over the sprinting distance of 1,400 metres during the 8th Lahore Winter Meeting at the Racecourse on Sunday.

The Khanewal Plate, a class four division II and III combined will be the fourth race of the day in the six-event card.

A colt from Dubai Edition out-of-Fanim, Dubai Fan trained by Sohail Aziz has won two back-to-back races and will be on the course to complete a hat-trick. He is in better form at present as compared to his five rivals. Seeing their last season’s performance, filly Rags To Riches and Royal Luck are good for places too.

Three-year-old colt Zaafran stirred an uproar in the Lahore Race Club (LRC) on Oct 5 when it transpired that he was not on the job and his odds with the bookmakers eased upward. The LRC chairman Tariq Aziz had to intervene and direct jockey Shahid Rehman to ride the colt on merit to calm the demonstrators, one of whom had attacked a bookmaker’s stall in the betting ring.

The colt finished third and Shahid Rehman was given the benefit of doubt on colt’s first try out. It was disgusting for racing connoisseurs to see a top jockey and wealthy owner involved in suspicious tactics.

Dream Memories, Trump Coup and Al Ain should fight for places. This will be the third race in racing order.

In the opener, three horses look to be on good chance to pick up the spoils, namely, Victory Sargent, First Passion and Mahima. They should end up in the same order provided they are sent with a will to deliver.

Hermatic, Princess Aman and Scarlet Empress attract attention on current form and performances in the second race. They should finish in the same order too.

Three-year-old filly Soviet Song looks a cut above in class vis-à-vis her nine rivals in the fifth race. She has already won two consecutive races and will be on the course to complete a hat-trick on victories. Iconic and Eve could be her nearest rivals.

One stable has fielded three runners in the sixth and last race of the day. They are: Raksh-e-Raqeeban, Blitz and Philogyny. The first named is the fastest of them while the last one is a slow beginner.

The first race will be held at 2.00pm.
