MARDAN, Oct 24: Two persons including a minor girl were killed and two others sustained serious injuries in a clash between proclaimed offenders and villagers of Naway Kalley on Friday evening.

Sources said the incident occurred when the bodyguard of Abdus Samad Toru, divisional president of Pakistan People’s Party, and his aides exchanged hot words with the dwellers of Naway Kalley over a petty issue.

After the arguments the villagers made announcements on the mosque loudspeakers urging the villagers to take up arms against what they called ‘proclaimed offenders’.

It may be recalled that Samad Turo and his son Abdul Wahid have been declared proclaimed offenders by the court in the murder case of Noor Zaman Khan and his three aides following their family dispute some six months ago.

The exchange of fire which continued till late in the evening claimed lives of two including Sher Afzal and a minor girl. The injured were passersby and were rushed to a local hospital.

District Nazim Himayatullah Mayar and local elders after getting information reached spot and brokered a ceasefire between the men of Samad Turo and villagers to avoid any further killings.
