SAHIWAL, Oct 23: A love-stricken man allegedly committed suicide on the premises of Arifwala Tehsil Court after a judge accepted a divorce appeal by his wife.

Asghar Ali, 26, and Sidra Bibi, both of 68/EB in Arifwala, had court marriage on Oct 17, as their families were against their wedlock.

Bashir Arain, the father of Sidra, through a panchayat, sought her daughter back with a promise that he would arrange a proper leave-taking for her. When Asghar returned his bride to his in-laws, they moved the additional sessions court seeking divorce for Sidra.

When the court ruled divorce had materialised, disheartened Asghar fired in his chest in front of his lawyer Muhammad Saeed on the court premises. He was rushed to hospital to be pronounced dead. City police confirmed that a murder case had been registered against two individuals from the Bashir Arain family.
