KARACHI, Oct 22: The TAS 2008 — the Arabian Sea Sportfishing Tournament — concluded at the WWF Wetland Centre at Sandspit, where angler Naved Ahmed of Team 32 was declared champion for landing a 20Kg Cobia.
Before the break of dawn, from around 5a.m. onwards, anglers started gathering at picturesque Mubarrak Village from where 104 anglers on 32 boats, after collecting their scorecards were flagged-off.
The main areas that were scanned were Nancowry Shoal, Bauchamp Reel, Charna Island, Hubco, kaio Island and kachiani.
At around 4p.m the team boats along with their fish started returning back and then moved on to the Wetland Centre Sandspit for getting their catch weighed. At the Wetland Centre, six species of gamefish were reported for the day. These included Mackerel, Cobia, Tuna, Queenfish, Groper and Barracuda.
The chief guest for the day was the Sports Minister Sindh, Mohammed Ali Shah who alongwith sponsors representative Khalid Mehmood, Tournament Director Aziz Agha, Ghana of W.W.F International, handed the prizes to the winners.
Runner up angler was Naseer Ahmed of Team 22 and landed an 8.5 kg Grouper. The third position went to angler Dawood Shah of Team 16 when he landed an 8.25 kg Mackerel.
