ISLAMABAD, Oct 22: The ministry of interior has submitted a plan to the Planning Commission and the Finance Division for recruitment of 10,000 personnel in Islamabad police, sources said on Wednesday.

The decision to enhance the strength of the police has been made to improve performance of the law enforcers and combat security challenges.

“The law-enforcement agencies would be upgraded in terms of manpower, mobility, communications, weaponry and other equipment so essential to deal with current challenges of internal security,” the sources said, adding 15,000 personnel in Frontier Constabulary would also be recruited and a summary would be forwarded to the Planning Commission and the ministry of finance in this regard soon.

Immediate financial support to law-enforcement agencies and civil armed forces is essential to improve their operational worthiness and for effective maintenance of law and order, he added.

The sources said it had also been decided for immediate capacity building of other attached departments of the ministry of interior like Federal Investigation Agency, National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) and the passport and immigration department.

To a question, he said the decision to raise the strength of the forces was made after green signal from the Planning Commission.-— APP
