Unisame’s plea to Customs

Published October 21, 2008

KARACHI, Oct 20: The Union of Small and Medium Enterprises (Unisame) has urged the Customs to reopen the Care (Customs administrative reforms system) for rice exports as the minimum export price (MEP) condition has been waived.

President Unisame Zulfikar Thaver has informed the Model Customs Collectorate that the rice exporters have to undergo a lengthy manual procedure for exports, which is not only expensive but also involves double loading and unloading of containers first for customs examination and then for shifting to the yard.

Mr Thaver said that both the TDAP and Reap had formally informed the collectorate that the MEP has been abolished, yet the customs authorities have not restored the Care facility for rice exports.—Staff Reporter
