MPAs to raise money for Fata people

Published October 20, 2008

LAHORE, Oct 19: The Punjab Assembly has formed a committee of MPAs to raise fund for the people of Fata displaced due to the ongoing turmoil there.

The committee was formed on a letter sent by National Assembly speaker Fehmida Mirza to the Punjab government.

Chaired by provincial finance minister Tanvir Ashraf Kaira, the members selected for the body are mostly well-off who can contribute a handsome amount on their own to the fund.

Ms Mirza has already formed such a committee in the National Assembly.

Officials say that earlier Ms Mirza had written to the Punjab Assembly for the establishment of the body.

But as rules of business of the provincial house do not allow forming a committee on a subject not directly linked with the province, the authorities, instead, circulated the letter among the MPAs urging them to contribute on their own for the cause.
