KARACHI, Oct 18: Sindh Sports Minister Dr Mohammad Ali Shah has clarified the age limit for swimmers contesting in the forthcoming 17th Sindh Women’s Swimming Championship 2008 is “under 12 years” which means 11 years and 365 days, and not a single day above the specified age limit.

In a communication to the organiser of the 17th Swimming Championship and President of Karachi Women’s Swimming Association Ronaq Lakhani, Dr Shah instructed that in future, any change in the rules should be announced and circulated a year in advance for the competition as these rules and regulations are meant to be for the promotion of swimming activity and for the benefit of all participants.

Dr Shah said that his office had received several queries from the parents of swimmers regarding change in rules of age-group by Sindh Women’s Swimming Association for the 17th Sindh Women’s Swimming Championship 2008, scheduled to be held at Karachi Gymkhana from October 25.

The directive came amid reports that the organisers are allowing some swimmers who are older than 12 years to take part in the championship.—APP
