Gas leakage fire injures 5

SAHIWAL, Oct 17: Five people, including four brothers, received burns when a fire erupted owing to leakage of natural gas from a loosely capped lamp installed in a house in K Block of Farid Town on Friday.

Rehmat Shah’s housemaid Ruqiyah, 18, allegedly failed to properly switch lamp’s safety valve off on Thursday night causing constant emission of gas throughout the night.

When she tried to kindle the lamp at around 6:30am on Friday, a fire erupted with an explosion, engulfing the whole surroundings.

The 18-year-old girl received critical burns while Shah’s four sons, 14-year-old Nabeel, 10-year-old Ghazanfer, eight-year-old Bader and six-year-old Shakeel, who were sleeping in the room, also received burns.—Correspondent
