RAWALPINDI, Oct 15: The Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) has recovered its “lost” bowser after five years and that too from the possession of its employee.

The water tanker (RIN-1083) valuing around Rs1 million was reported missing in 2003 during the tenure of the then Wasa director administration and finance, Raja Shaukat Mahmood.

Rumors that some senior officers were involved in the theft caused immense embarrassment to the civic agency.

Since 2003, there was no attempt on the part of Wasa to recover the water tanker until the incumbent Wasa managing director, Lt-Col (retired) Islamul Haq, took notice of the issue and sought help of the anti-corruption department.

Wasa Director Qamar Abdullah was given the task of coordinating with the anti-corruption department and unveiling the “black sheep” of Wasa. Finally, the bowser was found in the custody of Khalid Munna, a junior clerk in the civic agency.

Khalid is currently detained in the police lockup and his bail application has been rejected by the Lahore High Court (LHC) Rawalpindi bench.

Sources said some senior Wasa officers, who presently work in Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA), were also involved in the “theft” who would be exposed soon after recording the statement of the accused.
