LAHORE, Oct 14: The Punjab government has decided to hold a debate in the provincial assembly on law and order, Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif told a meeting held here on Tuesday.

“Terrorism and other serious threats confronting the country will be discussed in a special session of the Punjab Assembly,” Mr Sharif said, adding that a conference in memory of those who had lost their lives in suicide attacks would be held in a week.

Families of the victims of terrorist activities will also participate in the meeting.

The chief minister said that a national conference of Ulema would also be held to discuss ways to eliminate terrorism and extremism.

An extensive campaign would be launched in print and electronic media, besides holding special seminars, symposiums and debates to promote awareness among people about terrorism, he added.

He said that they were paying a heavy price for the decisions made in last eight years. He said terrorism and extremism was a complex issue and it would have to be tackled with wisdom and sagacity, upholding national interests and adopting a practicable strategy with national consensus.

He said the elements involved in terrorist activities would be exposed through the media so that people could be made aware of their nefarious designs.

He stressed an effective coordination between the various departments concerned with security.

Earlier, the Punjab home secretary presented recommendations to the meeting attended by Provincial Law Minister Rana Sanaullah, Media Adviser to the Chief Minister Pervaiz Rashid, Adviser to the Chief Minister on Security Jahanzeb Burki, MNA Sahibzada Fazal Karim and the chief secretary.
