MIRPURKHAS, Oct 14: A caretaker of a historical temple in Umerkot was injured on Tuesday when he put up resistance to some elements who were allegedly trying to occupy the temple’s land.

The injured caretaker of Aakhara temple, Jeewat Gar, and his mother, Haryan, told journalists that members of their family had been taking care of this temple for the last few centuries. However, they said, the land mafia was bent upon illegally occupying the temple’s plot for past few years and using various tactics to usurp the temple’s property.

They alleged that UC Nazim Dharamdas Bethlani and land mafia member Ratan Malhi along with armed men had occupied the plot of the temple. When Jeewat Gar put up resistance he was ruthlessly tortured and the armed men also threatened him of dire consequences if he restrained them from occupying the plot of temple.

ARRESTED: Taluka police arrested five suspects nominated in a murder case.
