PESHAWAR, May 9: A division bench of the Peshawar High Court on Thursday disposed of a writ petition of former senator and leader of PPP, Barrister Masood Kausar, after the government gave assurance that he was not involved in drug trafficking and money laundering.

Mr Kausar had challenged a list reportedly sent to the Swiss government by the former attorney general, Chaudhry Farooq, in 1998. In that list the names of Benazir Bhutto and Asif Zardari, some army generals and an ex-chief of PAF were mentioned and it was alleged that they were involved in money laundering and drug trafficking.

The PPP leader had challenged the list on the grounds that his name was mentioned at serial No. 144 of the list and as he was never involved in such-like activities therefore the list should be declared illegal and against the law. The petition was filed in 1998.

Deputy Attorney General Hamid Farooq Durrani appeared for the federal government and recorded a statement. It was stated that as far as information collected by the government, the petitioner was not involved in drug trafficking and money laundering.
