MOSCOW, Oct 10: Olympic ski champion Alexei Prokurorov was killed in a car crash on Friday, local media reported.

“Prokurorov was killed in an accident near the railway station at Vladimir,” the press officer of the internal ministry told the press. “He died after being hit by a car. Local police at Vladimir are now investigating the case.”

Prokurorov, 44, won the 30km gold medal and a silver in the 4x10km relay at the 1988 Olympics at Calgary. He also won a clutch of medals at the world championships during his sporting career.—AFP
