KARACHI: City council session today

Published October 10, 2008

KARACHI, Oct 9: The City council meets on Friday morning to discuss a draft amendment to a resolution that calls for increasing land-use conversion charges. The resolution was adopted by the council on Sept 1, 2008.

Convener Ms Nasreen Jalil had called a special session of the council on Monday last to discuss the proposed amendment but deferred the matter on the request of treasury members.

The opposition benches had expressed their reservations over the status of the session.

The amendment has been proposed by the master plan department which detected some flaws in the provisions of the resolution, maintaining that implementation of the resolution would create problems for those who had already paid land-use charges as per the old rates.

The chair had agreed to adjourn the session when the treasury leader assured the house that a new session was being requisitioned for Oct 10 as required under the law.
