‘Wheat ships being given priority’

Published September 30, 2008

KARACHI, Sept 29: The Port Qasim Authority has stated that wheat vessels are given priority over other cargo ships as per decision of the government, and there is no delay in the berthing of ships carrying wheat from its side.

Clarifying a newsitem, the PQA stated that it had only three cargo berths which can cater to two panamax size wheat vessels.

“Bunching of vessels at the outer anchorage is attributed to the charting policy of the TCP (Trading Corporation of Pakistan). One the one hand, vessels are bunching at the outer anchorage and on the other, lifting of wheat from the port is slow.”

On Sept 19, ground balance of wheat was 26,719 tons at the Port Qasim. In view of this, the TCP was requested to expedite lifting of wheat.
