Action against moonshine, gutka urged

THATTA, Sept 20: PPP MPA Humera Alwani has expressed concern over growing business of moonshine and gutka which was being used by the youth of the district and demanded that strict measures should be taken to eliminate this illicit business.

In a press release issued here on Saturday, she said that gutka, tobacco containing pans and local-made wine were being sold under the patronage of influential persons and local police.

She said more than 6500 pan biri cabins and individuals were doing this business resulting in mouth cancer, peptic ulcer, tooth decay and various stomach diseases among the consumers in the district.

The MPA suggested regular lectures in academic institutions, awareness programmes and massive campaign by civil society to get rid of this menace.

She stressed the need for legislation against the use of such items.
