GUJRANWALA, May 8: The traffic police have issued around 20,925 tickets to vehicle owners and fined Rs4.2 million collectively for violating the traffic rules in six districts during April.

Traffic SP briefed on Wednesday that around 8,975 tickets were issued in Gujranwala, 4,785 in Sialkot, 4,400 in Gujrat, 1,164 in Mandi Bahauddin, 1,176 in Hafizabad and 425 in Narowal.

He claimed 43 per cent accidents had been reduced owing to better performance of the traffic police.

The SP issued directives to all traffic inspectors to check speeding on roads.

ARRESTED: The Wahando police on Wednesday claimed to have arrested the dacoits who plundered cash and jewellery from the house of Lahore High Court justice’s cousin two weeks ago.

On a tip-off, the police raided a graveyard and arrested Tariq, Zulfiqar and Abdul Latif. The team also claimed to have recovered cash and jewellery.

Police said they looted valuables from justice Karamat Nazir Bhandari’s cousin Muhammad Saleem Bhandari’s house in Eminabad.

KUTCHERY: Gujranwala Electric Power Company (Gepco) Chief Executive Brig Mushtaq Ahmad Chaudhry (retired) will listen to consumers’ problems at a kutchery on May 10 and 11 at 11am, a press release stated on Wednesday.
