PESHAWAR, May 8: Amir of Jamaat-i-Islami, Qazi Hussain Ahmed, has demanded of the government to stop military cooperation with America immediately or it would cost the country dearly.

Speaking at a press conference here on Tuesday, he blasted the US special forces for raiding Deeni Madaris in Miran Shah, the headquarters of North Waziristan Agency.

He said the responsibility of the Pakistan Army was to safeguard the country’s frontiers, “but unfortunately President Gen Pervez Musharraf has tasked the army to guide the US commandos to desecrate the sacred places of Pakistan, particularly the Madaris.”

The government was hiding the truth that the US commandos were involved in the operation against the Taliban and al-Qaeda men in Miran Shah, he said, adding “in fact the American commandos, with the help of Pakistan paramilitary troops, raided Deeni Madaris — acts not only witnessed by tribesmen themselves but reported by the foreign media too.”

Qazi warned that the time was not far when the US-led coalition would start bombing the tribal areas as the US commandos would not confine their operation to North Waziristan Agency.

And the result would be little different from that of Afghanistan where thousands of innocent people were killed due to heavy US air force bombing, he added.

He said the US commandos operation inside the Pakistan territory was also a threat to the country’s nuclear installations. “Gen Musharraf is playing with fire which can cost the country dearly,” he remarked.

Qazi demanded that the US commandos and Pakistan paramilitary troops immediately stop operations in the tribal belt as the tribesmen would no longer tolerate the foreign troops presence in their territory.

He was of the view the present government, despite providing full logistic support and space facility to the US-led coalition forces for attacks against Taliban and al-Qaeda men, got nothing after the end of Taliban rule.

“The agreement with the US-led coalition forces must be terminated immediately as the western countries did not like the peaceful nuclear programme of Pakistan and can try to damage it,” he maintained.

On a question, Qazi Hussain Ahmad said the JI had a fear even before the US strike in Afghanistan about US operations inside Pakistan and that proved true.
