KARACHI, Sept 12: At least six persons died in separate road accidents in different parts of the city on Friday.

Police said that three persons were killed and 20 others injured when a passenger coach overturned on National Highway near Bagh-i-Madina in the limits of the Steel Town police station.

According to the police, one person died on the spot but the death toll rose to three when two of the injured passengers succumbed to their injuries while they were on their way to hospital.

Among the dead two have been identified as Nabil, 30, and Abdul Jabbar, 35, while the third victim remains unidentified till the filing of this report.

The injured were taken to nearby hospitals and were later shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for further treatment, Edhi sources said.

Police said that the accident was caused due to over-speeding during which the vehicle apparently developed some fault and as a result it overturned. Due to the accident, the flow of traffic on the main artery got affected.

On Friday morning, a motorcyclist died and his associate was injured when a fast-moving vehicle knocked them down on Tipu Sultan Road, police said.

Police and Edhi sources said that Abu Bakar, 20, succumbed to his injuries at the hospital while his associate Danial, 22, sustained serious injuries and was admitted to the Jinnah Hospital for treatment. The vehicle involved in the accident could not be traced, police said.

In another accident, a pedestrian died when two cars collided in Quaidabad on Friday evening.

Edhi sources said that the accident occurred when a car and a pickup truck ran into each other near the newly built Quaidabad flyover hitting a pedestrian later identified as Imtiaz, 25.

The victim was taken to the Jinnah Hospital in a critical condition where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

In another accident, an unidentified man died in a hit-and-run accident at Northern Bypass near Afghan Chowki. The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for legal formalities.
