KARACHI, Sept 8: Ali Asghar Valika, President of the Pakistan Billiards and Snooker Association, will relinquish the PBSA charge on Wednesday after serving the game for nearly 20 years.

During his tenure as the PBSA chief, Pakistan clinched the World and Asian titles in snooker singles event and two bronze medals at the 1998 Bangkok Asian Games.

In 1993, the PBSA also staged the 33-nation World Snooker Championship in Karachi besides three Asian Championships and numerous international events.

“I am stepping down but I have always served the game and the country,” Valika said.

Valika will be addressing a press conference to explain his viewpoint in the backdrop of Sports Ministry’s decision to suspend PBSA registration.

Fresh PBSA elections will be held on Sept 10 to pick the new office bearers for a two-year term. Alamgir Sheikh and Munawwar Sheikh are the strong contenders for the slots of president and secretary respectively.—APP
