LAHORE, Sept 3: Fancied three-year-old filly Royal Deal proved the superiority of her bloodline while winning the feature event of the midweek Lahore Gymkhana races at the Racecourse on Wednesday.

The five-to-two chance filly from Shogun out-of-Royal Market, Royal Deal ridden by jockey M. Zeeshan led all the way home to beat the 70-to-100 favourite mare Geo Super by a length’s margin, clocking one minute 4 1/5 seconds over the dust track. The bay filly Lighting Muqeem finished third, nine lengths further behind with Dream Memories edging the frame among 11 runners.

Riding the winner, jockey M. Zeeshan adopted runaway tactics right from the very start and dictated his own pace, which paid well leaving Geo Super with Naseer Ahmad in the saddle, chasing all the way to lose the race by a length. This was the sixth and last race in racing order.

A race earlier, the half money favourite bay filly Smore Choice won the supporting event in an easy way. Riding boy M. Jamil, partnering Smore Choice burst in to the lead after entering in to the straight and sped away from the pack to win by four-and-a-half lengths from Cash Price. Sun Downer came third while Fit Fat completed the frame among the seven runners.

The race was also marred an unhappy incident. The bay filly Jageerdarni stumbled during the race and dislodged her rider Khalid, who then fell to the ground. In the meantime, bay mare Shah Rani and Regulation who were right behind Jageerdarni, in an effort to save the fallen rider, too took a fall along with their riders.

The bookmakers returned home with rich profits when only one firm favourite obliged the punters in a card of six races.

The punters started on the wrong side right from the first race when the three-to-one outsider Nasir Love won defeating Azeem Prince by half a length.

The even money favourite dark-bay horse Leader’s Wing finished third, another one-and-a-half length behind.

To add to the misery of the punters, the long shot chestnut mare Miss Mano won the second race defeating Double Victory by a short margin of a neck. The even money favourite Trigger Happy finished third among the seven runners.

Then again the even money favourite horse Changer deceived the punters when defeated by rank outsider, the chestnut colt Shan-e-Aamer in the third race.

Yet another surprise for the punters came in the fourth race, when three-to-one bay mare Bagh-o-Bahar beat even money favourite Pretty by three-fourth of a length in the fourth race.

Smore Choice, backed at 40-to-100 provided some respite when he won the fifth race but in the following event, the last of the day, favourite Geo Super was beaten by a length.
