BAHAWALPUR, May 7: Jam Abdul Ghaffar, Musafirkhana police SI (presently under suspension in a corruption case), is also one of the suspects in the Rs 700,000 bank robbery at NBP Kotla Musa Khan branch near Uch Sharif.

His involvement has been alleged by one of the arrested dacoits, namely Sharif alias Rafiq.

On physical remand, Sharif told police that he and his three absconding accomplices had been staying with Jam Abdul Ghaffar. He further alleged that Jam Abdul Ghaffar had supervised their dacoity operation at NBP on Friday. A police team is now reportedly searching the SI.

It may be recalled that lawyer Shafiq of Rahimyar Khan has already been arrested in this case on the charge of patronizing the alleged culprits, three of whom are still absconding.

Sources said Shafiq had been convicted in an abduction for ransom case.

ESCAPES: Waseem Ahmed of Leiah, an alleged terrorist, again dodged a police party, which, on a tip off, raided a house in the Medical Colony, Bahawalpur, but the accused slipped away from the backdoor.

Stated to be an accomplice of Lashkar-i-Jhangvi activist Shakil, killed in March in an police encounter near Khairpur Tamewali, Ahmad was staying with Muhammad Ramzan, an operation theatre assistant, at his residence in the Medical Colony.

This is for the third time that Waseem successfully dodged the police. Police have meanwhile arrested Ramzan.

It may be recalled that police had traced Waseem’s name from the mobile phone record of deceased Shakil.
