LAHORE, Aug 29: Pakistan People’s Party Secretary-General Jehangir Badr says the party has no two opinions about Asif Ali Zardari’s candidacy for the president office.

“Mr Zardari’s ascendancy to the presidency will complete the transition to democracy,” Badr said while addressing a press conference at the Lahore Press Club on Friday.

The PPP leader said Nawaz Sharif had declined PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari’s offer for becoming the president during a meeting a few days back.

He credited Mr Zardari, the PPP and coalition partners for forcing a dictator to resign through the authority of parliament without bringing people out on the streets.

Mr Badr said that PPP leaders had faced ‘allegations’ by anti-democratic forces all along and the war between believers and non-believers of democracy was still continuing.

He said the decisions made by the PPP were always criticized during initial stages, but time had proved them right at the end of the day.
