GILGIT, Aug 28: Chairman Municipal Committee Ilyas Siddiqqi has expressed his concern over the lack of proper arrangements for the disposal of solid waste and feared outbreak of diseases if the situation continued.

Talking to Dawn here on Thursday, he said about 25 tons of the waste collected by the workers of municipal committee on tractors were taken to Chilmis Das, near the Karakuram International University, where it is burnt in open atmosphere, creating pollution in the city and its surrounding areas.

He said the pathetic situation was exposing the people to diseases but the authorities had turned a blind eye to the

problem.Mr Siddiqqi said that PC-1 for the solid waste management was flouted but it was not included in the annual development plan despite its dire necessity.

He demanded the Federal Ministry for Environment to take notice of this situation and undertake the project to keep the environment of town clean.
