LAHORE, Aug 18: Fancied three-year-old filly Secret Memories enthralled a jubilant crowd, landing the Jashn-e-Azadi Cup during the day/night Lahore Summer Meeting to mark the Pakistan Day celebrations at the Racecourse on Sunday evening.

The daughter of Dubai Edition out of Counters, Secret Memories lived up to her star billing when powering her third consecutive win, under Atif Javed before a sizeable crowd, gathering to admire the filly’s wonderful achievement.

The winner covered the distance clocking one minute three seconds over the sprinting distance of 1,000 metres.

Secret Memories owned by Arif Javed beat Pick Of The Day, ace jockey Shahid Rehman’s mount, by a length. Lucky Cat finished third with Magic Queen fourth in this fifth event of the day.

A race earlier, three-year-old bay filly Majestic Desert sprang recent months’ big surprise winning the August Cup run over 1,000 metres.

Ridden by Imran Pervez, the winner beat favourite colt Emperor by two lengths. High Jet finished third, half a length back while Gulf Line completed the frame.

Another long shot Royal Guester won the Independence Day Cup, defeating stablemate Victory Bulbul by nine lengths. Dam Dama Dam and Blue Fire completed the board.

The best performer of the day was five-year-old bay horse Harry Can Run, ridden by the riding boy Naseer Ahmed, who won the sixth and last race of the day’s card to tilt the proceeding at even terms. Harry Can Run, the horse trained by Rashid Hanif, proved that he can run well and win too. His owner Khawaja M. Atif was the proud winner. There were even exchanges between the punters and the bookmakers in the races held in connection with the Independence Day celebrations — three favourite horses won in a card of six races. The favourites to win were: Amazonia (30-100), Secret Memories (evens) and Harry Can Run (80-100).
