BAHAWALPUR, Aug 18: Members of the auto-rickshaw union in large numbers brought out a rally and blocked roads to protest hike in LPG prices here on Monday.

The rally, led by union president Juma Khan, was taken out from the Fowwara Chowk. Carrying banners inscribed with their demands, the protesting owners and drivers of three-wheelers paraded the city roads.

They also raised slogans against the government and LPG distributors for selling the gas from Rs110 to Rs120 per kilo.

Protesters blocked the busy Farid Gate Road, causing inconvenience to motorists. The traffic police had to divert the vehicular traffic to other roads.

Addressing on the occasion, union president Juma Khan condemned the local administration and distributors. He threatened to observe a wheel-jam strike in the district if the LPG was not supplied to them at cheaper and fixed prices.

Later, the rally marched through Circular Road and reached the DCO office. A delegation of protesters apprised DCO Muhammad Mushtaq Ahmed of their demands, who convened a meeting of LPG distributors and the auto-rickshaw union on Tuesday (today).
