LAHORE, Aug 18: The All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (Aptma) in association with the National Productivity Organisation (NPO) on Monday launched the second phase of energy audit of textile mills under the energy conservation programme for the textile industry.

Speaking on the occasion, Aptma Punjab Chairman Akbar Sheikh said that there was potential for saving 10 to 15 per cent energy in the textile industry by minimising wastages and realising efficiency of operations. The current level of energy consumption by the textile industry was around 1500MW. He said that 20 mills would participate in the second phase of Audit for Energy Conservation Programme.

NPO chief Malik Javed Awan thanked Aptma for its cooperation in the conduct of energy audits for conservation of energy. He said that efficient use of energy made possible by the audits brought about individual as well as collective benefits. He stressed on the need for carrying out energy audits on a large scale with a broad-based sweep.

Bharadwaj, Project Officer of the Asian Productivity Organisation (APO) speaking on behalf of its Chief appreciated NPO/Aptma efforts. He apprised of other options under APO/NPO including observation study missions to follow best practices, model industry programme for energy conservation and technical expert services programme.
