KARACHI, Aug 16: National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) beat Pakistan Television 5-2 and Army beat Karachi Port Trust 3-1 here in Karachi as Pak Elektron Limited (PEL) beat Punjab Medical College (PMC) 2-1 in the ongoing Pakistan Premier Football League’s (PPFL) first match played in Faisalabad on Saturday evening.
The match between NBP and PTV played at Karachi’s Korangi Baloch Stadium saw the bankers scoring first in the 13th minute through their striker Sattar Mansuri. This was followed by PTV’s equaliser in the 32nd minute through their striker and skipper Naimatullah and then their second in the 36th minute through winger Sanaullah enabling PTV to lead by 2-1 at interval.
The second half saw NBP making a comeback into the game by scoring four more. The 66th minute saw them leveling through their striker Farooq Shah followed by midfielder Wasim Qadir’s goal in the 72nd minute. Two more by midfielder Abdul Aziz (86th min) and centre defender Yasir Sabir during the extra injury time gave them the win they were looking for.
The other match at CDGK Stadium between Army and KPT saw Army’s first goal coming in the fifth minute through their striker and skipper Imran Hussain off right-winger Shakeel Yousuf’s back pass. The score at interval was 1-0.
The second half saw Imran scoring his second in the 61st minute, followed by Shakeel also getting his second in the 80th minute. Meanwhile KPT got their consolation goal in injury time through their spearhead Zahid Ahmed.
The Faisalabad match saw the hosts bearing the first two goals by their opponents in the 24th and 34th minutes through winger Asmatullah Khan and striker Rizwan Asif, respectively. Their own reply came in the 59th minute through striker Muzammil Hussain.
Sunday’s fixtures: Pakistan International Airlines v Khan Research Laboratories at Korangi Baloch Stadium at 5.30pm; Pakistan Steel v Navy at Pakistan Steel Town Ground at 5.30pm.
