PESHAWAR, Aug 13: At least 10 persons were killed and eight injured when a passenger coach collided with an oil tanker at Janay Garhi area near Mattani police station on main Peshawar-Kohat Road on Wednesday.

A police official said that passenger coach bearing registration number C-9441-Peshawar was on its way from Peshawar to Karak and the oil tanker LXG-196 was going from Peshawar to Kohat.

He termed the negligence of the tanker’s driver as cause of the accident. The tanker’s driver managed to escape after the accident while the driver of the other vehicle Tariq Khan son of Fazal Badshah resident of Bahadur Kalay Peshawar died on the spot, he added. He said a case against the tanker’s driver was registered at Mattani police station.

“Six persons were killed on the spot and four succumbed to their injuries when being shifted to the Lady Reading Hospital,” the police official said.

Those who were killed in the fatal accident included driver of the coach Tariq Khan of Bahader Kelay Peshawar, Karak Zakat and Ushr district officer Farhat Amin, revenue official Ashraf Khan, his ten-year-old son Saqib, Abdul Sattar of Karak, six-year-old Nasheeda of Bannu, Arif Khan, Hafiz Zaman, Mohammad Hussain and Israr Ahmad.

Eight passengers who sustained injuries in the mishap were identified as Noor Salim, Noor Sher, Abdul Sattar, his son Waheed, Pervez Iqbal and Tasleem Badshah. Most of the injured persons belonged to Karak.

The accident left the passenger coach completely destroyed and bodies of deceased were badly mutilated. Some of those who suffered minor injuries were discharged after giving them first aid. A hospital source said two of the injured passengers were in critical condition.
