Police foil ‘sabotage’ attempt

SHEIKHUPURA, Aug 12: The Bheki police in a joint operation with the railways police arrested two “miscreants who were trying to uproot a 40-foot piece of railway track on Tuesday morning.

The police said Idrees and his accomplices had uprooted a 40-foot piece of the main railway track leading to Jaranwala from Sheikhupura near Mamoki village.

A police team arrested two miscreants, one of them Idrees, while another escaped.

The police informed the railways authorities who directed the Sheikhupura and Warburton station masters to stop the trains. The railway traffic remained suspended for four hours.

Reports said Meraj Bibi and her husband Riaz exchanged harsh words over some dispute after which the latter got infuriated and shot dead the woman.

The police registered a case and began investigation.

RAIN: Seven-hour rain in the city and its adjoining areas left many localities inundated.

Several low-lying areas remained submerged in rainwater, causing inconvenience to the people.
