PESHAWAR, Aug 12: Militants blew up a police post in the Qila Shahbaig area, Mathra police station jurisdiction, early on Tuesday.

An official said some militants had planted the explosives at the post at night. However, no loss of life was reported in the blast.

The official said police had abandoned the post due to lack of personnel, saying militants’ activities in the area were on the rise and police with their existing number could not cover the entire area.

He said the Taliban were freely roaming in the area and holding meetings in the adjacent villages. Despite repeated efforts, the SSP (operation) could not be contacted for his comments.
