HYDERABAD, Aug 9: A vote of no confidence in the nazim of Sanjjar Chang union council of Chambar taluka, Raees Lakhi Mohammad Rind, was passed in the union council meeting held in the presence of a returning officer on Friday.

Mr Rind is a close ally of Tando Allahyar District Nazim Dr Rahila Magsi.

Ten members were present in the meeting. Nine of them supported the motion while one member opposed the move.

The union council has 13 members, including its nazim and naib nazim.

Returning officer civil judge and judicial magistrate Mumtaz Ali Solangi administered the proceedings.

Earlier, Mr Rind had moved the Sindh High Court and obtained a stay order against holding of the UC meeting from a single-bench judge, but the chief justice of the Sindh High Court set aside the stay order.

He then left for Islamabad to challenge the decision.

After the defeat of the PML-Q-backed candidates in February 18 general elections and installation of the PPP government, local PPP leadership is out to unseat Tando Allahyar District Nazim Dr Rahila Magsi through a no confidence motion.

However, after failing to convince UC nazims — who are members of the Tando Allahyar district council — to change their loyalties to unseat her, they have started tabling no trust motions in those UC nazims who are her allies.

Rind told Dawn that his petition had been admitted in the apex court and notices were issued to the respondents.
