MIRPURKHAS, May 6: A large number of peasants, including women and children, of Syed Ghulam Rasool Shah village, Deh 227, Mirpurkhas taluka, staged a protest demonstration in front of the press club here on Monday.

They were protesting against the alleged excesses of a landlord, Yar Mohammad Baloch, and his henchmen, who, according to them, had occupied their 12 acres.

Led by Syed Johar Ali Shah, the protesters were carrying banners and placards and raised slogans against the landlord.

Talking to newsmen, Ghulam Hussain Wejto, Bilawal Wejlo, Bachal Wejto and others said that they were the peasants of Syed Johar Ali Shah, and had been cultivating the 12 acres for the last one decade.

They alleged that on April 19, the landlord and his armed henchmen attacked their houses and set seven houses ablaze and took away their two buffaloes and four goats.

They further said that two minor girls had also sustained burn injuries in the attack.

They regretted that since then they had been homeless and residing under the open sky.

They alleged that instead of arresting the culprits, the Dilbar Maher police had arrested their three persons and challaned them in a false case.

They demanded of the Sindh governor, IGP, AIGP, Hyderabad, and other authorities concerned to order an impartial inquiry into the matter.
