PESHAWAR, Aug 8: Hundreds of armed miscreants stormed into the Mattani police station at night, killing a policeman and injuring two others.

An official of the police station said that hundreds of armed men attacked the police station from different directions at midnight but security personnel strongly resisted and repulsed the attackers.

He said the cross-firing resulted into killing of a police constable Salim Khan and minor injuries to two constables, Tariq and Wajid.

APP adds: The militants were equipped with lethal weapons. During the attack in the suburban areas of Peshawar, one policeman and several attackers were killed.

Granullah Khan, SHO of the police station, told reporters that dozens of militants besieged the police station around 2am between Thursday and Friday night and fired rockets launchers at police station.

The police and Frontier Constabulary personnel responded and repulsed the attack, he said and added that the clash continued for about three hours. Constable Salim Khan, a resident of Dalazak, was killed on the spot while several militants were also reported killed in the attack.

The militants took away bodies of their colleagues along with themselves.
