FAISALABAD, Aug 4: Three family members were killed and eight others, including children and women, were injured when the wall and roof of a house collapsed on them in Railway Colony on Monday.

Reports said that Yaqoob Masih and his family members were asleep in the courtyard and a room when the dilapidated wall of the house caved in.

Within no time, the roof of the room also collapsed, killing Yaqoob, his son Zain, 8, and daughter Karishna, 10, instantly while Nasreen Bibi, Asif, Kinza, Manzoor, Wishal, Eisha, Manzoor and Rashid sustained injuries.

Rescue 1122 shifted the injured to the hospital where their condition was stated to be stable.

The infuriated relatives of the victim family and the area people took out a protest rally and blocked Abdullahpur Road for some two hours. They chanted slogans against the Railway authorities.

Protestors told reporters that Yaqoob had repeatedly requested the Railway authorities for the repair of his dilapidated house, but to no avail. They said Yaqoob had finally started the repair work on his own which the Railway authorities ordered him to stop citing that dwellers were not entitled to construct anything.

Protesters later dispersed peacefully when city district nazim Rana Zahid Touseef assured them that action would be taken against the negligent Railway officials.

The district nazim also constituted a three-member committee to probe into the matter.
