Rs1.38m looted from bank

GUJAR KHAN, July31: Five armed men looted Rs1.38 million from the Bewal branch of HBL on Thursday after detaining the crew and customers into strong room of the bank.

Manager of the branch Muhammad Khalid told this reporter that the robbers overpowered gunman deployed at the bank and snatched his gun. Later, they forced the bank officials along with two male and a female customers into the room.

The robbers escaped with the looted money, leaving the room and main entrance of the bank locked, the manager said. He said they also took away cell phones of the officials and customers.

Police said they were preparing sketches of the robbers. It is pertinent to mention here that a number of incidents like robberies and thefts have occurred in the Gujar Khan police station area, but the police have failed to arrest the culprits. —Correspondent
