SIALKOT, July 28: The family and relatives of a youth, Asim Mehmood of Gohadpur, who was tortured to death allegedly by the police in 2007, on Monday demonstrated in front of the SCCI building during the chief minister’s address and protested the indifference of the authorities concerned over arresting the accused.

The protesters were holding banners and placards and chanting anti-police slogans. They said that suspects, including Inspector Rana Zahid Hussain and other police officials, were still at large and the police were reluctant to arrest them. They urged the chief minister to provide them justice.

The chief minister took notice of the demonstration and ordered Inspector General of Police Shaukat Javed to hold an inquiry into the incident.
